The U.S. Dietary Guidelines are published every five years after a panel of appointed experts convenes to review the latest nutrition science and determines what changes are needed to federal nutrition recommendations. Since 1980, the U.S. has updated its guidance seven times and an eighth revision is expected in late 2015.
