AMSA Educational Webinar: Overview of Poultry Grading - Application of USDA Grades Add Value to Stakeholders

The American Meat Science Association (AMSA) in partnership with the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), Agricultural Marketing Service (AMS) will conduct monthly live educational webinars highlighting all the services the Livestock and Poultry Program (L&P) provided to the Meat and Poultry Industry. During this webinar the L&P Program will give an overview of poultry grading highlighted services and standards as well as value added from stakeholders’ perspective.


AMSA Chad Brillhart Photo 121521Chad Brillhart is the Assistant to the National Poultry Supervisor with USDA, responsible for aiding in the development and oversight of poultry standards including the quality grades for chicken, turkey, duck, goose, and rabbit. Chad works closely with the USDA’s Livestock and Poultry Quality Assessment Division (QAD) to ensure uniform application of standards and grading activities across the country. He also serves as a technical expert on the many poultry related activities within the USDA. Chad graduated from York College of Pennsylvania in 2010. He has worked for the USDA for 10 years both as a QAD poultry products grader and as a QAD Federal State Supervisor for Pennsylvania and New Jersey prior to entering his current role. 

Brett Strauss Brett Strauss is the assistant to the grading branch chief with the Agricultural Marketing Service (AMS), Livestock and Poultry (L&P), Quality Assessment Division (QAD). Brett graduated from Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo, CA, in animal science with an emphasis in poultry management/production. He started his career with Poultry Programs in 2007, which would later merge with Grading Verification Division (GVD) creating the current L&P programs. Over his 15-year career he has been a poultry grader, shell egg grader, supervisor, and staff officer for the Western Region covering the 13 western states.


DeannaMs. Jones began her career with Tyson Foods, Inc. 30+ years ago in Research & Development she is responsible for regulatory, nutrition and sensory analysis. Currently, she leads a team focused on direct sales to USDA and Commodity Processing programs for the National School Lunch and Breakfast programs. Her office is located at Tyson Foods World Headquarters in Springdale, Arkansas.
