During this webinar Dr. Morgan will highlight photographs of Chicago's Packingtown from the turn of the twentieth century. Looking at how images were used both to promote and to critique the city's industrial-scale trade in animals and meat, the talk will illuminate the role photographs played during a period of nascent globalization in American food industries.


EmilyMorganEmily Kathryn Morgan is Associate Professor of Art History at Iowa State University. She is the author of Street Life in London: Context and Commentary (published by MuseumsEtc. in 2014), and she has published articles in Art Journal, History of Photography, and Food and History, among others. Her current research project considers visual cultures of industrial-scale slaughter and meat production.


This webinar is hosted by the American Meat Science Association (AMSA).
