Description:The American Meat Science Association (AMSA) in partnership with the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), Agricultural Marketing Service (AMS) will conduct monthly live educational webinars highlighting all the services the Livestock and Poultry Program (L&P) provided to the Meat and Poultry Industry. In this webinar, AMS employees, Hilary Cole and Darin Doerscher, will give an overview of the Agency’s commodity procurement program and demonstrate how technical requirements factor into bringing safe, wholesome red meat, poultry, egg and seafood commodities to their recipient-base.  Additionally, you will hear from Dallas Hockman, National Pork Producers Council, regarding the positive impact that Federal nutrition assistance programs have had on the pork industry.

Cole_H

Hilary Cole is the Division Director for the Proteins, Grains, and Oilseeds Procurement Division within Agricultural Marketing Service's (AMS) Commodity Procurement Program and is responsible for leading acquisition activities for a portfolio of products.  Hilary’s work supports American agriculture and provides safe and nutritious food for various domestic food aid programs.  Additionally, Hilary serves as a warranted contracting officer.  Hilary has led acquisition initiatives at USDA and U.S. Department of Energy.  Hilary has a BSBA in Marketing and Master of Business Administration from The University of Central Missouri.  She is originally from Prairie Home, Missouri and currently resides in Kansas City, Missouri.

Darin R. Doerscher

Darin currently serves as the Chief of the Food Safety and Technology Branch within the Livestock and Poultry (LP) Program.  In this role, Darin and his team oversee the red meat and aquatic commodity specifications and technical requirements associated with Federal nutrition assistance programs.  Additionally, his Branch is accountable for Program area food safety initiatives, microbiological testing strategies and data management efforts for LP purchased commodities. During Darin’s career with AMS, some of his most notable accomplishments were serving as a principal author to the Institutional Meat Purchasing Specifications, developing the Beef Tenderness Marketing Claim Standard and serving as an Agency representative to FSIS activities, including food borne illness investigations, recalls and agroterrorism exercises. Darin, his wife, Skye, and son, Benjamin reside on their farm in rural Grand Mound, Iowa where they raise beef, poultry and egg commodities.

Dallas HockmanDallas Hockman has a long history in agricultural business, both domestically and internationally. Hockman’s extensive experience includes positions in sales, marketing, product development, brand management and public relations, and business management. Hockman is the vice president, industry relations, for the National Pork Producers Council. He is responsible for enhancing relationships across the pork supply chain, including retailers, food service and food manufactures. He serves as spokesman for industry issues, including crisis management and response, for the food chain. Previously, Hockman was vice president of demand enhancement for the National Pork Board where he was responsible for the organization’s product marketing programs worldwide.  Prior to joining the National Pork Board, he held marketing and management positions for Cargill and Purina Mills.
