A brief overview of National Institute of Food and Agriculture grant opportunities in the area of Animal Health and Production and Animal Products, followed by a discussion of grantsmanship.

Dr. Steve Smith serves as National Program Leader, Animal Production Systems within the USDA National Institute of Food and Agriculture. He provides leadership for a wide range of research, extension and education projects related to animal production; he is the primary contact in the areas of livestock nutrition, growth, and lactation, as well as sustainable production systems; he serves as liaison to a number of industry groups, several multistate committees and other federal agencies in matters related to production animal agriculture. Dr. Smith came to NIFA in 2009 from industry, having worked in a variety of research, sales and marketing positions within Southern States Cooperative and Cargill, Incorporated.
