It is no secret — most of us in the industry realize that market barrows perform better than gilts. But should we look at this challenge as a cost of business or a revenue opportunity? A recent KSU-published paper has economically quantified the gilt gap at an estimated $3.60 loss/gilt for producers and about a $5.00 loss/gilt for integrators. Hear from two experts – Dr. Ben Bohrer, Meat Scientist, The Ohio State University, and Dr. Chris Hodges, Pork Industry Consultant, as they discuss a new solution for producers and packer processors helping to close the gilt gap in terms of pounds, carcass composition, and meat quality.

Dr. Ben Bohrer is a Meat Scientist at The Ohio State University. He completed his graduate education majoring in animal sciences at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (Ph.D. in 2016) and The Ohio State University (MS in 2013). Dr. Bohrer's research goal is to address applied research questions for producers and consumers – while supporting the goals of the meat industry. He has authored or co-authored 65 peer-reviewed journal articles, six book chapters, and over 85 conference abstracts.

Dr. Chris Hodges is a Swine Industry Consultant with over 30 years of experience in food and agriculture, focusing on the meat industry, including National Pork Board, Smithfield, ConAgra, and Farmland. He received his Master's degree in 1978 from Columbia University, New York International Fellows Program, and continued his education to receive his Ph.D. from the University of Minnesota in Agricultural Economics (1978-1981).

The webinar is interactive and will last approximately 60 minutes, including Q&A. Registration is complimentary. Once you have registered, you will receive an e-mail confirmation of your enrollment status and the information you need to join the webinar.
