Champaign IL. May 10, 2016 – The American Meat Science Association (AMSA) is pleased to announce, Dr. Yolanda Zepeda, Ms. Danette Amstein, and Ms. Angela Scott will be the featured speakers at the AMSA 69th Reciprocal Meat Conference (RMC) Diversity in the U.S. and its Effect on the U.S. Meat Retail Case Symposium, sponsored by Cryovac Sealed Air.  This session will take place on Tuesday, June 21, at Angelo State University in San Angelo, Texas. This session will show the influences of minorities in the US on meat retail cases.

Presentations from these speakers will focus on the topics below:

  • Not One Single Heroic Act: How Ordinary Individuals Can Foster Inclusive, Sustainable and Diverse Communities: Effective strategies for developing diverse talent pools is imperative.  Dr. Zepeda, Assistant Vice Provost, Office of Diversity and Inclusion at The Ohio State University, will share some insights from the work that they are doing at Ohio State to diversify their faculties and help participants think about ways that these strategies can be extended to animal sciences.
  • Diversity Through the Corporate Lens: Ms. Scott, Candidate Branding Manager at Tyson Foods, will focus her presentation on understanding the complexities of diversity from an industry and employment perspective. She will address identifying practices in place to meet these complexities, and industry opportunities that can positively impact diversity in the meat case.
  • Understanding Today’s Meat Consumer: Today’s meat consumers are so much more diverse in how they shop for meat and what they want to know about what they purchase.In this session Ms. Amstein, Principal at Midan Marketing, will introduce attendees to a variety of meat consumers and touch on the issues that drive their shopping/eating behavior.
