AMSA PORK 101
PORK 101 was recently held at Iowa State University in Ames, IA and attendees couldn’t get enough. One attendee asked “When is Beef 101 and Chicken 101? I’ll take it as soon as I can!” Another attendee stated “Excellent class! The presenters and support were very knowledgeable and experts in their field – you can definitely see their passion they all have for the industry and made learning that much more fun and impactful!”
The program is hosted by AMSA and sponsored by the National Pork Board, Merck Animal Health, and Smithfield Foods. The PORK 101 partnering organizations include the American Association of Meat Processors (AAMP), North American Meat Institute (NAMI), Southeastern Meat Association (SEMA), and the Southwest Meat Association (SMA).
Hands on programs such as PORK 101 would not be possible without the 16 presenters and helpers on site at Iowa State University, which were comprised of many Iowa State University professors and students as well as professionals from the Iowa Pork Producers Association and Penn State University. Many attendees were left impressed with the high level of information shared.
- “Your staff and student subject matter expertise was very impressive. The level of knowledge in your students and how much they care about meat science was evident. This has been a tremendous program.”
- “Enjoyed all areas-loved the hands-on experience!”
- I enjoyed “understanding the entire supply chain and how everyone in every step impacts the end product quality. How can we all work together to drive consumer demand and improve the eating experience?”
If this experience sounds like one that you need to have, we will host more PORK 101’s in the near future. As soon as registration is open, we will communicate that through eNews and our website at www.meatscience.org. We look forward to seeing you there!
