Smithfield Hosts the 2023 Explore STEP Program in Virginia

On November 3-5th, 25 talented students from across the US convened in Smithfield, VA, for the second Smithfield Foods, Inc.
On November 3-5th, 25 talented students from across the US convened in Smithfield, VA, for the second Smithfield Foods, Inc. Student Training and Education Program (STEP). Students participated in professional development, leadership engagement, Smithfield campus tours, and industry projects to grow their knowledge and skillsets. During the event, participants developed a network of peers working together to fulfill the bacon needs of the "Chris P Bacon Company," represented by our own Meggie Bertucci, Eastern Region Student Board Director. 
   
Groups learned the importance of working on integrated teams and the functions of FSQA, R&D, Engineering, Continuous Improvement, and Operations in the meat industry. 

“Smithfield Foods is committed to providing talented students the opportunity to explore food manufacturing,” shared Kaitlyn Compart, Director, Scientific Affairs. “What better way to do this than partnering with AMSA and inviting students on-site to connect directly with industry leaders and learn more about our organization?” Last year seven attendees from the formerly known as Integrate program participated in our Early Career Programs, including summer internship and Career Foundation Program (CFP); we look forward to welcoming even more!
