AMSA Announces Dr. Frank Dunshea as Recipient of the 2026 International Lectureship Award Sponsored by PIC
The American Meat Science Association (AMSA) is excited to announce that Dr. Frank Dunshea is the recipient of the 2026 International Lectureship Award sponsored by PIC.
Dr. Dunshea, an internationally recognized leader in animal nutrition and meat science, will deliver the International Lectureship at the AMSA 79th Reciprocal Meat Conference (RMC) on Monday, June 22, 2026, in Canyon/Amarillo, Texas. His presentation will highlight research on the development of a predictive eating quality model for fresh pork, offering new insights into improving consumer satisfaction and product value.
Dunshea’s research focuses on developing a model capable of predicting key sensory traits, including tenderness, juiciness, flavor, and overall liking, based on measurable production and processing factors. The model incorporates variables such as ultimate pH, sex, cut, aging period, cooking method, endpoint temperature, moisture infusion, hanging method, and electrical stimulation to generate a Pork Quality Score (PQS) that reflects expected consumer satisfaction.
Dr. Dunshea has built an internationally respected research career, publishing more than 1,200 journal, conference, book, and technical articles. His work has received over 30,000 citations, and he holds an h-index of 91, reflecting the broad scientific and industry impact of his research. He is a Fellow of the Nutrition Society of Australia, the Australian Society for Animal Sciences, the Australasian Pig Science Association, and the International Union of Nutritional Sciences in recognition of his contributions to nutritional and animal sciences. Dr. Dunshea also previously served as Chair of the Australian Academy of Science Nutrition Committee.
Throughout his career, Dr. Dunshea has received numerous prestigious honors, including the American Society of Animal Science (ASAS) awards for Growth and Development (2009), Non-Ruminant Nutrition (2013), Meat Science (2017), and Ruminant Nutrition (2022). Additional recognitions include the Asian-Australasian Association for Animal Production Woogene Award for Animal Biotechnology and Green Technology (2022), the FASS-AFIA New Frontiers in Animal Nutrition Award (2023), and the World Association for Animal Production (WAAP) Lifetime Research Award (2023). Dr. Dunshea currently serves as President of the World Association for Animal Production (WAAP) for the 2023–2028 term.
