Why do you want to be on the AMSA Student Membership Board of Directors and what qualifications make you the best candidate for the position?

I feel my practical experience and connections within the meat industry, specifically with regards to meat judging, position me as a well-rounded candidate for the AMSA Student Membership Board of Directors. Within the next year, I feel this organization can continue to empower and engage undergraduate students from multiple universities. In doing so, I hope we can continue to foster relationships with major meat industry companies, such that students are well-equipped for internships and job opportunities. Furthermore, I look forward to helping enhance student outreach and participation at events such as Reciprocal Meat Conference (RMC) and Student Leadership Conference (SLC).

What does your AMSA membership mean to you?

As a former judging team member and now coach, being afforded an AMSA membership has provided me with benefits far beyond the judging arena. Perhaps the biggest opportunity I have had as an AMSA member has been getting to know leaders within our industry, both in the commercial sector and academia. There’s no doubt, it’s these relationships that have better prepared me for my professional future beyond securing a PhD. As a student board of director, I want to ensure these opportunities continue to benefit students of AMSA for years to come.
