Why do you want to be on the AMSA Student Membership Board of Directors and what qualifications make you the best candidate for the position?

Serving on the AMSA Student Membership Board of Directors would be a great opportunity for personal growth and to serve the meat science industry. Getting to serve on a board with other driven students across the country with a common goal of promoting the meat industry is a great way to build networking, teamwork, and organizational skills that are essential in the workplace. Additionally, this opportunity to
serve the meat industry would allow me to opportunity to give back to a community that has molded me into the individual I am today. I believe that I am highly qualified to serve on the student board of directors because of my involvement and knowledge of the meat industry. Participating on an intercollegiate meat judging team, attending conferences, and conducting research across the country have all allowed me opportunities to grow my knowledge and stay highly involved in the meat industry. As a doctoral student in meat science I continue to learn and stay up to date with important topics in the industry and believe that I could bring my experience and knowledge and make a superb candidate for the AMSA Student Board of Directors.

What does your AMSA membership mean to you?

The American Meat Science Association has a rich history in research, extension, and student involvement. My membership with the AMSA began at Tarleton State University as a student member of the intercollegiate meat judging team. During that time, I discovered my love for the meat industry and began getting more involved by taking meat science classes, attending conferences, and working at the university meat lab. Through the AMSA I attended my first RMC and was able to meet individuals that
became my friends and future advisors. I love how the AMSA has allowed me to become part of a group of likeminded individuals that have come together to feed the world a high-quality food source. The AMSA has helped me pave my future in the meat industry and I can only hope that other members value their membership of this organization the way that I do.
