Why do you want to be on the AMSA Student Membership Board of Directors and what qualifications make you the best candidate for the position?

From a young age I have been actively involved in the livestock and agriculture industries growing up on my family’s registered Hereford operation. Naturally, with this involvement has come a passion for advancing the livestock and meat industries and taking advantage of any opportunity to do so. When given the opportunity to be on the meat judging team at Kansas State University, I jumped at the chance to learn more about the meat industry. Consequently, I also learned of the many activities and duties that the AMSA and the AMSA student board have, that all aid in advancing the livestock and meat industries. As I have continued to seek more involvement within the AMSA, I have further gained an appreciation for the numerous opportunities that are given to students to further their scientific and industry knowledge base. With this in mind, I knew that I wanted to give back and serve an organization that has given me numerous opportunities. I feel that my production agriculture background and animal science education give me a different and diverse perspective. Additionally, my involvement in meat science related activities and internships will aid me in helping to create new opportunities for students to engage in as well. I feel that my diverse background, coupled with my drive to further advance the meat and livestock industries make me an ideal candidate for this position.

What does your AMSA membership mean to you?

As an AMSA member, you are part of a global community of students, researchers, academia, and industry professionals working towards a common goal of ensuring the success and continuation of the meat industry. Being an AMSA member means that I am part of a global community that encourages members to network, solve problems and share knowledge in order to advance the field of meat science. The numerous opportunities to build relationships, foster educational opportunities and work with multiple segments of the meat, livestock and agriculture industries present several opportunities to everyone who is a part of the AMSA, including myself.
