Why do you want to be on the AMSA Student Membership Board of Directors and what qualifications make you the best candidate for the position?

I may not have realized this at first because I became involved with AMSA through meat judging. Still, AMSA is continuously giving to students and providing countless amounts of opportunities within the meat science industry. I am one of those students, and I am very passionate about giving back. I want to be a part of influencing the future and creating more opportunities outside of the meat judging world. I want to help influence every future meat and food scientist to get involved with the American Meat Science Association. AMSA has so much more to offer, and although I am already an advocate, it would be an honor to have a more significant influence. Through my experience serving as the Southwest Meat Association intern and assisting the development of the summer  conference, I have gained an appreciation for working with industry personal, universities, and specifically students with interest in the meat science field. I am confident my passion for meat science and prior experience would bring benefits not only to the American Meat Science Association, but also each member.

What does your AMSA membership mean to you?

The American Meat Science Association membership means opportunity, growth, and development. The first opportunity I had with AMSA was through meat judging, where I competed on the team while at Texas A&M University. This experience allowed me to interact with many AMSA members through industry tours and contest banquet, where I was able to learn more about the opportunities within the meat industry. However, it didn’t just stop there. I have been given the opportunity to attend two Beyond Fresh Meats Short Courses, which has allowed me to grow my knowledge base in ways that most classrooms cannot. It’s truly a unique opportunity that through AMSA, I was able to absorb as much
information as possible. These are only just a few ways that express what my membership means to me. Each experience, I have grown personally and developed professionally while interacting with different personalities and backgrounds, who all share the same drive and passion for the meat industry. I take great pride knowing that I am a part of the American Meat Science Association, where the constant drive for innovation, education, and future of meat science is supported.
