Dr. Michael Dikeman AMSA Mentor Recognition Fund

Sep 04, 2019

Michael and Earlline DikemanA mentor is defined as “an experienced and trusted advisor”; and for numerous Kansas State University students, Dr. Michael E. Dikeman served as the epitome of a mentor since first stepping foot onto campus in 1962.  To honor Dr. Dikeman for his esteemed career in meat-animal science and his dedicated service to the American Meat Science Association (AMSA), an AMSA Mentor Recognition endowment has been established.

For many, Dr. Dikeman is synonymous with Kansas; and, more specifically, Kansas State University.  Through his dedication and inspired service, the students he encountered carry a “little bit of Kansas” with them forever.  The establishment of this Mentor Recognition would not only serve as a tremendous honor to one of the pillars of Kansas meat-animal science, but would also grant future meat-animal scientists some of the rewarding experiences that Dr. Dikeman’s past students once had and will remember for the rest of their lives.

The AMSA Mentor Recognition requires the collection of $12,500 within three years to achieve “chartered” status; but to be considered a “fully funded” Mentor Recognition, a minimum of $25,000 must be collected within five years of achieving “chartered” status.  It is Dr. Dikeman’s desire to have the expendable funds generated through his endowment go towards supporting the Program, Communication and Outreach Fund for support of the AMSA Reciprocal Meats Conference symposia and lectures.

To join in donating to the establishment of Dr. Dikeman’s Mentor Recognition, please visit the dedicated website or send a check payable to the AMSA Educational Development Council to: AMSA Development Council, c/o American Meat Science Association, 26145 Network Place, Chicago, IL 60673.  Checks should also indicate “Dr. Michael E. Dikeman Mentor Recognition” on the memo line.

The AMSA recognizes contributors of at least $500 as “Charter Recognition Members” by placing their names and identities on a plaque to be presented to Dr. Dikeman at the Reciprocal Meats Conference.
