The American Meat Science Association’s Statement on COVID-19

March 13, 2020

Like you, we are following the unprecedented and developing changes and travel restrictions associated with the COVID-19. As a scientific association, our priority is first and foremost to do the right thing as it relates to hosting meetings and other planned events. It seems that this situation will be very fluid for the foreseeable future and AMSA is committed to frequent and transparent communication of our plans.

AMSA remains committed to hosting the 66th International Congress of Meat Science and Technology and 73rd Reciprocal Meat Conference (ICoMST/RMC) August 2-7, 2020 in Orlando, Florida, USA. We anticipate that the meeting will take place as scheduled and that it fulfills its potential to be the most well-attended international, premier meat science meeting of 2020.

We want to provide you with as much planning time as possible. To do so we have made the following changes to important dates:

  • We are extending the reduced registration rate deadline from June 18, 2020 to July 21, 2020.

  • The AMSA Refund Policy has been extended. Cancellations by the registrant must be received by July 24, 2020 to qualify for a refund and a $75 administration fee will be deducted. If AMSA is forced to cancel the 2020 ICoMST and RMC, we will not charge an administration fee and will refund the registrant 100%.

  • The final date for hotel reservations at the group rate at Disney’s Coronado Springs Resort will be July 2, 2020. The Refund Policy is 5 days’ notice prior to arrival.

  • We are extending our abstract submission deadline from April 10, 2020 to May 12, 2020.

We have been communicating with the Florida Convention & Visitors Bureau and the DisneyWorld team in Florida to ensure the safest meeting possible. We continuously monitor developments related to the coronavirus (COVID-19), including statements and guidance issued by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and the World Health Organization.

AMSA is committed to doing everything we can to hold the ICoMST/RMC, while also ensuring that we are following all the current science-based guidance on COVID-19 transmission. We are grateful for your patience and cooperation throughout this challenging situation.
