Southwest Invitational A-Division Meat Judging Contest

We are excited to host you at Texas Tech for the annual Southwest Invitational Meat Judging Contest (A-Division) on Jan. 11-12, 2019. Our goal is to have a high quality contest that will be a valuable learning experience for your team. Below is important information regarding the contest. 

Start Times & Locations

The first portion of the contest will be on Friday at Cargill in Friona. The contest registration will begin at 4 PM. The contestants will judge beef grading, beef carcasses, beef pricing and beef cuts classes and answer questions. The second portion of the contest will be in Lubbock on Saturday morning with 8:30 a.m. instructions and 9 a.m. start. We will have a brief awards presentation at the conclusion of the contest.

Contest Registration & Forms

Send a list of contest participants to Loni Lucherk no later than Friday, January 4. (loni.woolley@ttu.edu).

Registration Packets will be handed out at the plant in Friona on Friday, Jan. 11.

Attached is a sign-in sheet and the release form that MUST be completed prior to entrance on Friday.  Please bring these with you on Friday to Friona. 

Parking

When you are at the Texas Tech meat lab on Saturday, parking officials have asked that you please park on the WEST side of the livestock arena

Senior Teams

Senior teams are welcome to come to our meat lab and practice. Please let us know when you would like to come. We will have product available Thursday, Friday and Saturday afternoon following the contest.
