Job Description of the AMSA President, President Elect and Past President
Executive Committee - President
REPORTS TO: Membership
DESCRIPTION: Elected by the membership as chief elected officer; chair of board of directors and executive committee.
PURPOSE: Leads the AMSA Board and acts as official representative.

Responsibilities
- Appoints committee chairs and project team leaders when assuming office and periodically as needed, after approval by board of directors.
- Assigns board members to be liaison to committees/teams when assuming office and periodically as needed.
- Assigns liaisons to represent AMSA with other organizations.
- Represents AMSA at meat industry meetings with president-elect, if feasible.
- Represents AMSA at meetings of other organizations or designates an alternative.
- Appoints AMSA representatives to outside organizations.
- Responds to correspondence on behalf of AMSA or delegates that correspondence to the most appropriate individual.
- Determines board and membership meeting agendas with the Chief Executive Officer.
- Regularly reviews all committee/team and board activities and presents new ideas/information to appropriate persons.
- Reports to board and membership on meetings attended on behalf of AMSA.
- Mentors and facilitates transition of president-elect to president.
- Prepares annual report for presentation at annual membership meeting.
- Consults with past-president as needed.
- Directs the recognition of outgoing board and committee chairs/team leaders at annual business meeting/RMC.
Executive Committee – President-Elect
REPORTS TO: President
DESCRIPTION: Elected by membership; member of executive committee for one year immediately prior to term as president.
PURPOSE: Transitions to position of president. Assists the president by overseeing special projects and being a committee member/project team liaison as determined by the president. In the event of disability of the president or other emergency, the president-elect serves in the role of president.

Responsibilities
- Participates in program development of AMSA.
- Reviews and revises the Policy and Procedure Manual immediately after each board meeting as indicated.
- Supervises semi-annual Policy and Procedure Manual update (See Section VI-Policy and Procedure Manual, semi-annual update).
- Reviews and updates the board orientation packet.
- Presides at meetings in the absence of the president.
- Acts as parliamentarian at board meetings.
Executive Committee – Past-President
REPORTS TO: President
DESCRIPTION: Member of executive committee for one year immediately following term as president.
PURPOSE: Consultant to president.

Responsibilities:
- Maintains archives of AMSA activities.
- Updates and revises the orientation packet for new board members.
- Chairs the Nominations and Recognition Committee
- Serves as the liaison to the Award Selection Committees
- Facilitates performance evaluation of Chief Executive Officer in collaboration with executive committee and board of directors.
