Sara Thomas

Cargill High Plains
My name is Sara Thomas and I am from Statesboro, GA. I am currently pursuing a Bachelor of Science degree in Agriculture. I am majoring in Agribusiness with a minor in Horticulture at The University of Georgia. I intend to graduate spring of 2026, and hope to transition to a job in the agricultural field. The Gary C. Smith Scholarship from the Bellinger Foundation will relieve my financial burdens, by allowing me to focus more on my studies and professional development. With this support, I am excited to continue my journey and make a positive impact in the field!
My experience with meat judging has shaped my perspective on the meat science industry. Through AMSA’s meat judging competitions and practice, I’ve developed technical skills in meat evaluation and leadership abilities that will benefit me in any future career. Being on the meat judging team has been such a rewarding experience! Traveling out west for competitions has been a unique experience, and has allowed me to see parts of the country that I otherwise would not have been able to. I am so grateful for this opportunity, and all of the many lessons learned regarding meat science.
