Christi Calhoun, Ph.D.

Scientific Communication Resource Officer

American Meat Science Association

Scientific Communication Resource Officer:  lead the efforts for AMSA to create and communicate scientific information on all aspects of meat science to a wide range of audiences. She will also work in partnership with Dr. Rob Maddock to support the USDA AMS Technical Assistance Program providing critical technical information to meat processors of all sizes.

Trained as a meat scientist with an extensive background in animal health, R&D of meat, cereal, ice cream, as well as labeling and regulatory topics, she will draw upon those experiences to guide, create, and deliver science-based resources to members and stakeholders. Throughout her career, Christi has been committed to advancing food and agriculture, engaging with all sectors of the food chain, including livestock producers, packers, processors, retailers, food service, and associations. Her career has included roles with Zoetis, Wells Enterprises, Advance Brands, Sara Lee, and Kellogg's.

She holds a Ph.D. and M.S. in Meat Science and a B.S. degree in Food Science, all earned from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. Christi is involved in her Le Mars, IA community and enjoys outdoor activities with family.
