Dr. Peter Ballerstedt received his Bachelor of Science in Agriculture in 1981 and Master of Science in 1983, both from the University of Georgia. He received his Ph.D. from the University of Kentucky in 1986, specializing in forage management and utilization, minoring in ruminant nutrition. Peter has extensive experience in forage agriculture. He was the forage extension specialist at Oregon State University from 1986 until 1992. He’s been with Barenbrug USA since 2011, first as their Forage Product Manager until 2018, and currently as their Forage Ambassador. Barenbrug, with over 115 years of experience, is a worldwide leader for innovative forage and turf grass varieties. Peter is an advocate for ruminant animal agriculture and the essential role of animal source foods in the human diet. He strives to build bridges between producers and consumers, and researchers across a wide variety of scientific disciplines. He is a member of several national and international scientific societies, participates in related global initiatives, and is the current President of the American Forage and Grassland Council. Peter’s study of human nutrition is fueled by his personal experience. This knowledge, combined with his forage background, led him to become an advocate for ruminant animal agriculture and the essential role of animal source foods in the human diet. He strives to build bridges between producers and consumers, and researchers across a wide variety of scientific disciplines. Peter has spoken at many different events in the US and internationally. Many of his presentations are available on YouTube. Peter and Nancy live in western Oregon with their three dogs, Conor, Noni and Iris.  

Dr. Sara Place is an expert in livestock systems sustainability with over a decade of experience in academia, industry associations, and private industry. Most recently, Sara has been the Chief Sustainability Officer at Elanco Animal Health where she provided technical expertise on sustainability issues to customers and supported Elanco’s Healthy Purpose. Prior to Elanco, she was the senior director for sustainable beef production research at the National Cattlemen’s Beef Association and an assistant professor in sustainable beef cattle systems at Oklahoma State University. She received her Ph.D. in Animal Biology from the University of California, Davis, and a BS in Animal Science from Cornell University. Sara is a native of upstate NY where she grew up on a dairy farm.
