Howdy! My name is Zachary Hoelscher, and I am a sophomore Animal Science major at Texas A&M University. I grew up in Lorena, Texas, where I raised show cattle and was an active member of my local 4-H club and FFA chapter. Here, I began my meat judging journey, which gave me the motivation to continue my judging career in college. Being a part of the Fighting Texas Aggie Meat Judging Team has allowed me to learn more about an incredible industry and connect with dozens of industry professionals, while making great friends and memories along the way. My interest in meat animal anatomy, as well as my interest in health and medicine has helped me decide to pursue a career in medicine, where I hope to become an orthopedic surgeon. The Gary C. Smith Scholarship provided by the Bellinger Foundation will be of tremendous assistance in my future and will help support me for many long years of schooling. I can’t express my gratitude enough for this amazing opportunity!
