Darrell Dowd Mentor Recognition Fund
AMSA is proud to announce the formation of a Mentor Recognition fund in honor of the late Darrell Dowd.
Mr. Darrell Dowd devoted more than two decades to supporting students, coaches, and the American Meat Science Association Intercollegiate Meat Judging program. As a USDA representative and official for beef grading and specifications, he brought professionalism and integrity to every contest. His commitment to student development was recognized in 2020 with the Intercollegiate Meats Judging Meritorious Service Award, honoring his exceptional contributions to the program.
Darrell was not only a respected colleague but also a mentor and advocate for students. His kindness, reliability, and dedication to the industry made a meaningful impact throughout his career with USDA.
He welcomed newcomers with genuine warmth, offered help without hesitation, and brought positivity to every contest and coaches’ meeting. Darrell’s influence on intercollegiate meat judging and on the many students and professionals he supported will continue to be felt through the programs and people shaped by his guidance.
We will share how these funds, dedicated to supporting the AMSA Intercollegiate Meat Judging program, will be used in the weeks ahead.
