Current Mentor Recognition Funds
Mohammad Koohmaraie, Candidate for Mentor Recognition
During his career, Dr. Mohammad Koohmaraie has focused his research in three major areas: combating pathogenic contamination of beef; the biological mechanisms regulating beef tenderness; and meat quality measurement, including the development of non-invasive instrumentation for carcass yield and quality classification. His research has provided the industry with answers to longstanding challenges. After 24 years as a USDA scientist, Koohmaraie left the public sector to pursue his passion for ensuring beef safety and quality in the private sector. In April 2008, he joined IEH Laboratories and Consulting Group as chief executive officer of the Meat Division. At IEH, he continues his longstanding efforts of working closely with the industry to help companies produce the safest meat possible.
Specific Purpose of Funds: The funds from this mentorship will go towards supporting fresh meat research and its presentation at the AMSA Reciprocal Meat Conference (RMC).
Recognition of a Meat Science Mentor
- A formalized fully funded Meat Science Mentor Recognition established with the AMSA Development Council will provide the following:
- Public recognition for the professional accomplishments of a member of AMSA whose contributions to meat sciences have been national/international in scope.
- Both recognition of and on-going financial support for an area championed by the honoree in the form of an endowment established for a specific purpose. ($25,000 or greater)
- Recognition of honored individuals and donors in an annual publication of the Association.
- A plaque presented to the honoree.
