Why do you want to be on the AMSA Student Membership Board of Directors and what qualifications make you the best candidate for the position?

As a Student Membership Director, I hope to serve AMSA by promoting the organization’s goals while also making meat science students across the country more familiar with the numerous opportunities AMSA provides. My own experience as a student member the past three years have shaped my career path, goals and knowledge of the industry. I would love nothing more than to continue interacting with like-minded peers and professionals while continuing to increase student involvement. I have been very involved in student activities throughout my membership, consistently attending RMC as well as the Student Leadership Conference, and participating in student mixers and events. Having been previously involved in student board-organized events, I believe I have a good working knowledge of the various event goals. Furthermore, I have completed multiple industry internships within the last several years. These experiences have allowed me to form strong connections with meat industry companies such as the Certified Angus Beef Brand, Sysco and the National Cattleman’s Beef Association. I know these connections will prove useful when planning events.

What does your AMSA membership mean to you?

My AMSA membership is the portal to my future career. My student membership began when I competed on my university’s intercollegiate meat judging team my sophomore year. At the time, I had no idea the extent to which my student membership would shape me as a young professional. This organization has opened countless doors for me through meat judging, RMC, undergraduate quiz bowl, internships, and graduate school. The connections I have made with peers and mentors alike as well as the things I have learned and ways I have grown over the last three years are truly priceless. The AMSA is not an organization I plan to leave behind following graduation. As excited as I am for the opportunity to serve on the student board of directors and share these opportunities with other students, I am even more excited to continue my membership through a career in industry where I hope to serve as mentor to future students.
