Why do you want to be on the AMSA Student Membership Board of Directors and what qualifications make you the best candidate for the position?

I am interested in being on the AMSA Student Membership Board of Directors because I am extremely passionate about the meat industry. I am interested in all aspects of the industry and the science that is being revolutionized around the industry. I believe food is one of the most unifying factors in our culture today. Thus, it is important to understand all aspects from chemical, production decisions to consumer appeal. I feel this position will give me a whole industry perspective on how decisions are made to how those decisions are felt from the producer down to the consumer. This position will also provide a guide for my goal of pursuing a Masters’ of Science in Meat Science.

I believe I am the best candidate for this position because of my passion for the industry. I am currently gaining experience everyday while attending classes, working at the on-campus meat lab, at practices, or meeting with my mentors. I am invested in the research and education of all aspects of meat to better enhance the community of the meat industry.

What does your AMSA membership mean to you?

My AMSA membership is a door that will open to all different avenues within the industry. The AMSA has been a constant resource of reliable information and contacts while exploring the meat industry. There is an innumerable amount of resources available to further my knowledge of the industry not only in the United States but around the world. I have been able to not only grasp the breadth of the United States meat industry but the different industries around the world and how they are all interconnected with my AMSA membership.
