Clarendon Named A Division National Champions

Clarendon Community College was named National Champion Team for the A Division at the Cargill High Plains Contest held on October 28th in Friona, Texas at Cargill. Thirty individuals from four colleges participated in the A Division contest. Clarendon’s team members include: Megan Ziegenhagen, Kane Friermood, McKenzie Owen, Kara Belt, Blake Medders, Adrian Sinclair, Korbin Clark, Caleb Blackwell, Kellan Bennett, Alex Moore, Tyler Miller, James Daniels, Zachary Perry and Kordell Kraich. They are coached by Tate Corliss. 

Clarendon was followed by Garden City Community College, Cisco College, and Fort Scott Community College. Megan Ziegenhagen from Clarendon Community College was high individual and the winner of the FSNS Scholarship with teammate, Kane Friermood coming in second. Blake Medders (Clarendon College) won the alternates contest. 

Kansas State University took top honors in the B Division at the 2018 Cargill High Plains Intercollegiate Meat Judging Contest. In total, 89 contestants representing 12 teams competed, with Kansas State University coached by Travis O’Quinn, placing first. Kansas State’s team members include: Leah Parsons, Sam Davis, Hannah Taylor, Keayla Harr, Kaci Foraker and Cole Liggett. Kansas State was followed by Texas Tech, Texas A&M, Oklahoma State and Colorado State.

Leah Parsons (Kansas State University) was high individual and winner of the FSNS Scholarship with Katelyn Gillum (Oklahoma State) taking second. Colton Smith, from Texas Tech University, won the alternates contest. 

This year’s committee consisted of: Dr. Joe Harris, Southwest Meat Association; Ian Shann, Cargill; Dr. Henry Zerby, Wendy’s QCC; Sarah Wells-Herringshaw, Wendy’s; Mallory Sikes, Sikes’ Ranch; Dr. Dale Woerner, Texas Tech University; and Darrell Dowd, USDA.
